Description
The calcium-binding induced conformational change of Troponin-C induces contraction in muscle cells. A single amino acid, Glu41, is responsible the conformational change, through electrostatic interactions with newly bound calcium atoms in a neighboring helix. Mutant proteins lacking this amino acid do not change conformation upon Ca-binding.
